This week we began our study of the cubism style. For the studio portion of the class, we were asked to draw our class mates/life models using geometric and cubist style forms.
The resulting forms and images were a broken down and minimalistic interpretation of the models in various poses. Sharp angels and shapes helped to add definition of form. This type of exercise was great in figuring out how things are broken down and can be a great way to learn perspective, proportions and form. The style of technique is used even today by graphic artist, during the early stages of their work, and by animators, both 3d and 2d, game developed and many more.
A particular aspect of this image, I wanted to mention are the legs. The model was swinging her legs at one point and to capture that moment I used the shape in different positioning.
With this image, since the pose was very strong I wanted to use exaggerated features at the ends, like the hands, to show that strength.
The use of sharp angels was used here to show a slight distortion in the figure and intensity of the pose.
Again the use of sharp lines and shapes were used to show the different elements and angels of the figures.
The exaggeration of some of the features were used to bring attention to the areas that the models were emphasizing on.
